We are all aware of depression and anxiety not all of us may comprehend the two illnesses in depth but we know it and agree with me that blacks haven't took time to know about them. In a black household if you say you're depressed it's either you're now too educated and this level of education is running to your head. You may receive statements like "how do you become depressed when you are fed and sheltered" .
Blacks are just unfamiliar with things that have to do with the emotions , narrate us a story where you told your parents about your emotions and their response
Wow, just a week ago I think, I was telling my mom that as much as she's the oldest between the two of us it doesn't mean she's always right, as I am typing this, I want to tell you that things have been a bit off between the two of us because of that statement. So what happened is, there was something going on in the house and it was her fault instead of taking responsibility, she tried to put the blame on me, saying had I listened to her instructions very well none of that would have happened. Tired of always taking the blame, I decided to tell her the truth, I told her how I don't appreciate the fact that she will always find a way to blame me when things go wrong instead of taking the blame, yohhhh, things she said, she was furious, and right there I was told how disrespectful I was!!! Yep Abazali.
ReplyDeleteParents are the cause of our depression too. Their words sometimes are inconsiderate.
ReplyDeleteIyoh, I remember one time I was so depressed (I didn't understand depressed back then myself) I wanted to commit suicide, I felt my parents were neglecting me. I went as far as writing a note to them and overdosed some pills; to my dismay I woke up the following day and all my mom had to say was that I'm dramatic.
ReplyDeleteLack of knowledge..teach them about these things and don't just say I'm depressed. I have never been in that situation and I don't wish to be
